A lawyer, who has been accused of being dishonest, works with the police to expose two share pushers who have employed him, saving the investors from ruin.

A team of rescue workers do what they can in the desperate situation left by an earthquake in the Kyrgyz mountains.

In his daydreams, 15-year old Otto is a real hero who masters dangerous situations by the dozen. But in reality, the rather imaginative ninth grader has trouble moving up to the next grade. Fortunately, his teacher Nickel notices that Otto does not lack intelligence, but the ability to use his imagination for the requirements of everyday school life. Together with school director Menschke, Nickel tries to change Otto’s attitude. Although this is easier said than done, Otto eventually realizes that he has to try to build his cloud-castles only after school has ended. And his teacher is going to support him in his attempts.

Seeking the whereabouts of international gangster Nick Randall, the U.S. State Department seeks the help of Scotland Yard. Nick's girl, Angela, is currently in a British prison, but has refused to give Nick away. So the authorities contact Gran' Ramsey, a stoolie currently at the same prison as Angela, to have her arrange an escape for Angela, so the police can follow her to Nick. Gran' stages a getaway, the two women taking with them a third, Marguerite, whose prison-born baby is about to be turned over to the welfare department.

They probably would have never met in their lives if fate hadn't brought these women together in Latvia. How they decided to go to a foreign land, how they got out of the territories occupied and bombed by Russia, how they were greeted in their new lives, how to find a place in this new reality, how to be alone in charge of everything, to find a place to live, a job. How to deal with your internal crisis, how not to go crazy longing for your home. What to say to your own children, what it means to hear from a husband once a day at a certain agreed time and what happens if he doesn't call. How to find the strength to continue... They seek answers to these questions as they try to learn to live anew.

Compulsive gambler Oz lives in a rent-controlled apartment in Brooklyn, with his roommate, Ivy-League dropout Ish. Crippled by an unspoken fear of failure, the serial underachievers whittle the hours away playing video games and discussing plans for a band that has yet to leave the realm of the hypothetical. But after they meet graffiti artist Veronica, who challenges them to take action, Oz and Ish must examine themselves for the first time.
